Parental Involvement

Developing students to their full potential is a partnership. Footscray Primary School empowers children, teachers and parents to ensure learning is genuine and relevant.

Parents are involved in all aspects of school life at Footscray Primary School. Parents are also invited to share their skills, stories and vocations to deepen learning in the classroom.

The school uses a skills matrix to ensure parents’ skills are identified and utilised whenever possible. There are limitless possibilities for parent involvement, creating a greater sense of community and improving links between home and school.

Some of the ways parents are currently involved in school life include roles as:
– School councillors and sub-commitee members
– Weekly garden club volunteers
– Classroom helpers (with tasks such as reading)
– Classroom representatives (helping build social connections between parents at each year level as well as helping with year level fund-raising)
– Fundraising

When parents add to the school community in positive ways, students have a richer experience and a greater sense of connection to the school, which can improve educational and social outcomes.

If you have ideas about new ways to be involved at the school, please contact the principal.
